Performs land surveys for rights-of-way and easements and construction surveys to establish line and grade for various sanitary facilities. Investigates, conducts, and writes technical reports for the tribes regarding related environmental engineering activities. Work is performed in an office setting with frequent visits to the field to obtain data and inspect sites; may require walking, bending, climbing.
Qualifications Include: 
(1) Be in a school of engineering with at least on curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum; or
(2) Include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. A full 4-year course of study that meets all the requirements for a bachelor's degree, and that included or was supplemented by at least 30 semester hours in a science or any combination of sciences directly related to environmental health (such as sanitary science, public health, chemistry, microbiology, or any appropriate agricultural, biological, or physical science).

Izembek National Wildlife Refuge, on the southern tip of the Alaska Peninsula, is the meeting place for land, water, and birds from all over the world. The lands administered by Izembek National Wildlife Refuge encompass almost 3,000,000 acres of glacier-topped mountains, rolling bush tundra, alder thickets, riparian areas, and coastal marshes. In addition to lands at the southern end of the Alaska Peninsula, the refuge also has jurisdiction over the remote 1,000,000 acre Unimak Island, the first island in the Aleutian chain. The refuge is home to spectacular scenery that includes about a dozen volcanoes, many of them active. The 150 square mile Izembek Lagoon contains one of the largest eelgrass beds in the world, supporting migrating waterfowl such as the Pacific black brant, emperor goose and Steller's eider. The area hosts one of the largest densities of brown bear anywhere in Alaska.
