The Metals Recycling Business (MRB) Regional Environmental Manager (REM) reports directly to the MRB National Environmental Director and indirectly to the Regional Director. The REM is responsible for implementation of company policies and procedural plans related to all environmental media; including air, stormwater, groundwater, solid, and/or hazardous waste. The REM keeps regional facilities in compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local environmental laws, standards, and permits and has responsibility for maintaining current permit status. This position has direct responsibility for conducting on-site fieldwork associated with sampling, monitoring, observing, recording, and preparing for reports, records, and plans required by regulatory permit, plan, or agreement. The REM assists in the overall planning, installation, and operation of measuring apparatus and equipment. The REM provides advice to MRB operations management on the practical and necessary steps to prevent or abate pollution arising from operations. The REM provides first line immediate environmental emergency responses to incidents, spills, releases, and accidents. The REM provides appropriate notifications to management and appropriate regulatory agencies and assists with site investigations and remediation projects related to due diligence activities and other environmental issues. This position operates within flexible parameters. The primary goal of this position is to achieve excellence in all facets of the environmental management. Responsibilities Include:
Environmental and Health & Safety (H&S)
Ensures all Company and business unit Health, Safety, and Environmental standards are strictly adhered to.
Monitors projects and suggests recommendations for improving safety or environmental conditions.
Encourages the reporting of any control violations.

Recommends changes in procedures, design, or equipment when necessary.
Represents the organization occasionally at public and/or private discussions including technical forums, regulatory hearings, legal actions, or other public meetings.
Maintains relationships with outside associations concerned with pollution abatement and government personnel in regulatory agencies.
Assists, as requested, in efforts to develop, plan, and manage environmental investigations associated with past operations and sites being evaluated for acquisition or sale.
Provides oversight and management of work performed by various consultants and contractors, as well as coordination with both in-house and outside legal counsel.
Plans, conducts, and/or supervises consultants doing environmental research on project assignments.

Qualifications Include:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience. Minimum of three to five years experience with environmental regulations and sampling for testing air, water, soil, hazardous waste, and materials. Preference for engineering or science background including environmental science, chemistry, or biology. This position requires possession of a valid driver’s license and the ability to drive an automobile.
Sufficient education or experience in technical field work preferred. Preference for person trained or certified in hazardous materials handling, clean-up, or response. Knowledge of local, state, and federal environmental programs and regulations with approved sampling techniques and procedures. Strong analytical, interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills required. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, and environmental management systems and environmental testing or analytical equipment. Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems; collect data; establish facts; draw valid conclusions in controlled situations; and read and understand engineering plans and specifications.

Compliance: Manage/Develop site plans related to and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements across all applicable regulatory areas.
