Director, Leopold Center for Sustainable Agriculture
Summary: 
Iowa State University is seeking an outstanding scientist and administrator to direct the nationally pre eminent Leopold Center for Sustainable Agriculture, established by the Iowa legislature in 1987. The center contributes through research, outreach, and education to the development of sustainable agriculture production systems that are environmentally sound, socially acceptable, and economically competitive. The center also informs the agricultural community and general public of its research findings. The center has funded more than 450 Iowa-based competitive grants totaling $19 million and works collaboratively with Iowa State faculty in nationally ranked departments of agronomy, agricultural engineering, animal science, horticulture, agricultural education, entomology, plant pathology, and economics. Iowa State is one of the nation's leading land-grant universities and ranked as one of the top 50 public universities in the nation by U.S.News and World Report. It is located in Ames, Iowa, a community of 50,000 residents, ranked by Money magazine as one of the top 10 places in the country to live. The director of the Leopold Center is appointed by the university president, employed by and responsible to the director of the university's Iowa Agriculture and Home Economics Experiment Station, and advised by an independent board. The board advises the director in the development of a budget, on the policies and procedures of the center, in the funding of research grant proposals, and about program planning and review.
Responsibilities Include: 

1. Organize and administer an interdisciplinary, mission-oriented research and extension program with an annual institutional support base of at least $1,600,000.
2. Provide leadership and coordination for a professional staff to accomplish the research, education, and outreach objectives of the center.
3. Provide leadership to secure additional resources to enhance the center's activities.
4. Contribute to the development and application of sustainable agriculture practices in the state and elsewhere through personal research and education activities consistent with the mission of the center.
5. Direct dissemination of research results and their environmental, social, and economic implications through Iowa State University Extension programs and professional publications and conferences.
6. Serve as a member of the administrative team of the university's College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, which includes the dean and associate deans and administrators of the experiment station, other research centers, and academic departments.
7. Build partnerships with a wide array of agricultural, environmental, and related organizations to facilitate coordination of research and educational activities related to agriculture and natural resource issues.
8. Work with the university's Henry A. Wallace Endowed Chair for Sustainable Agriculture to coordinate programs in sustainable agriculture.
Qualifications Include: 

1. Demonstrated commitment to the mission of the Center and evidence of a holistic viewpoint relative to solving agricultural, environmental and social problems (as outlined in the Groundwater Protection Act.)
2. A Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in a discipline related to the mission of the Center and appropriate for appointment as a tenured full professor in a department in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
3. Experience in building effective leadership with personnel and programs and obtaining new funds through creative partnerships and innovation.
4. Distinguished record of research and outreach accomplishments and evidence of success in obtaining competitive grant and philanthropic funding. An ability to provide leadership and direction to various competitive grant and other funding programs.
5. An ability to communicate effectively about sustainable agriculture with stakeholders and with the general public.
6. Shows evidence of an understanding of current agriculture and natural resource issues, technology, practices, and affiliated organizations.

Preferred Qualifications:
1. Experience in managing a large staff and financial budget
2. Evidence of national and international stature in sustainable agriculture.
3. Evidence of experience working with the media.

The School of International Service invites applications for a tenure-line faculty position at the assistant professor level in the field of Global Environmental Politics, starting in Fall (August) 2012. The multi-disciplinary faculty of the School of International Service includes more than one hundred full-time, highly productive scholar-teachers in the fields of comparative and regional studies, global environmental politics, international communication, international development, international economic relations, international peace and conflict resolution, international politics, and United States foreign policy. The Global Environmental Politics Program is focused on the global context of environmental politics and policy-making. The program offers a wide range of courses and supports research in environmental affairs in a transnational context. The relatively small size of the program is an asset permitting close interaction with fellow faculty and students. The Biology Department at Bucknell University invites applications for the David Burpee Endowed Chair in Plant Genetics to begin August 2012. Responsibilities Include: 
As part of the five course teaching load, the successful candidate will be expected to teach an introductory course for majors or a non-majors course that contributes to the university’s general education requirements. Additionally, the successful candidate will teach an upper-level course in her/his area of specialty within plant biology that complements our current course offerings. It is also expected that the successful candidate will establish a research program that involves talented undergraduates and has the potential to attract extramural funding.
Qualifications Include: 
The successful candidate must have a strong commitment to curricular development for both majors and non-majors. We are especially interested in candidates working in the fields of ecology and evolution. Applicants must have a Ph.D., an established independent research program and extensive teaching experience with evidence of teaching effectiveness.
